Etymology

'Broad ford' (across R. Frome), v. brād , ford , cf. sub ponte de Bradeford 1268Ass . The family of Peverel (l ) was here in the 13th and 14th centuries (Robert Peverel 1200 RC, 1212, 1219 Fees, Andrew Peverel 1236 ib, John Peverel 1275 FF, RH, etc.), cf.
