Etymology

The surname Luvesta , 'dearest one,' is found in Ermington in the SR for 1333. The place-name Lustleigh may be of late OE or ME formation and denote the clearing (v. leah ) of a man so nicknamed. Professor Ekwall suggests an OE  pers. name Lēofgiest .
