Etymology

The forms point to the same OE  pers. name Fremma which lies behind Fremington (PN NRY 213) and Framfield (PN Sx 392). The early forms with a are probably Anglo-Norman spellings (IPN 112). It may be noted that in 1227 (Ch) there is mention of a Fremesmore near by, probably named after the same man.
