Etymology

v. leah . The manorial history of the place is as follows. It was held by one Godbold in 1086 (DB) and by 1242 (DA 45) had passed to Hugh Peveril . Ralph de Daddescumb or Doddescombe held it twenty years later (c. 1260 Exon, 1263 Ipm), but in 1303 (FA) it was held jointly by John de Dodescomb and Hugo de Gubbewolt , presumably a descendant of the DB tenant.
