Etymology
'Church farm' v. cyric(e), tun , and cf. Cheriton Fitzpaine supra 414. One acre here was granted to the bishop of Exeter a. 1280 by Eleanor de Melewis (DA 34, 335). 'South' perhaps to distinguish from Cheriton Fitzpaine.
