Etymology

The use of the element chag - from an OE  ceacge , the source of chag , a dialect word for broom or gorse, found in OE only in place-name compounds, is fully discussed in PN Sx 296s. n. Chailey. It is found also in Chasty supra 147 and Jackmoor infra 456.
