Etymology
Apparently 'Brūnwulf's farm', v. tūn ; cf. Burnside We. As Ekwall (DEPN) notes an OE pers.n. Brūnwulf is not well evidenced and perhaps ON pers.n. Bryniolfr might be considered. The DB form Burn - shows metathesis as does the modern form. There has also been confusion of the first element in many of the later spellings with OE *Brunwald .
