Etymology

'Blæcca's clearing' v. leah . The name Blæcca was borne by a 7th cent. prefectus of Lincoln. It forms the first element in Bletchingley (Sr) and Blatchington (Sx). The strong form *Blæc , not found independently, occurs in Bletchingdon (O) and, perhaps, in Bletsoe (Beds).
