Etymology

Bonham (6″) is Bonham 1356 BM, 1435 Cl and was the home of John de Bonham (1323 Hoare) and Nicholas de Bonham (1371 Pat). The house is mentioned in Leland who writes “There is on an hille, a little withoute Stourton, a grove, and yn it is a very praty place caullyd BonhomesBonhome (proprius Bonham ) of Wileshire, of the auncientie house of the Bonhomes there, is lords of it” (Hoare 89). The forms are too late for any etymology to be satisfactory.
