Gate Close (6″) is, as Crawford has noted (WM xli, 294), so called from Pedlar 's Gate (1773 A and D) which was at the junction of the parishes of Little Bedwyn, Froxfield and Shalbourne and was by the …nes geat of the Little Bedwyn charter (BCS 225).
