Etymology

Bewley Ho is Beuelee 1257, Ed 3For , Beueleye c. 1290Lacock , 1392AD , 1415 Cl, Beuelegh 1330 AD iv, Beuleye 1332SR (p), Beauley , Bewley 1540MinAcct , Beawley 1542 LP. Perhaps a compound of OE  bēaw , 'gadfly,' and leah , 'clearing.' Cf. Beaford and Bowcombe (PN D 86, 284).
