Etymology

Farnell Copse (6″). Cf. Ferhilla Alurici t. Hy 1Shaston , Fernhall , Fernhull '1242 Fees, Farnhull 1258 FF, Fernhull juxta Tissebury 1307FF , Fernhill 1393AD , Firnhull 1428 FA. 'Fern or bracken hill,' v. fearn . It must at one time have been held by a certain Alfric .
