Etymology

Tittlepath Hill is Tittlepath Hill 1773 A and D, Ticklepath Hill 1830 Hoare. Possibly the correct form is sticklepath , 'steep path.' Cf. that name as found twice in Devon (PN D 27, 166) and in the unidentified sticelan pað (BCS 588) in the bounds of Fovant, a few miles to the east. v. sticol . Dropping and adding of an initial s before a consonant is fairly common.Cf. Speckledean for Pickledean infra 306 and tittlebat for stickleback . Interchange of k and t is even more common.
