Etymology

Pickwick is Pykewyk (e )1268, 1289Ass , 1327SR (p), 1333 AD iv, 1375 Trop, Pycwyk 1279, 1281Ass , Pickweeke 1686Rental .The name seems to be a compound of OE  pic , 'sharp point,' etc., and wic, 'dairy farm.' Upper Pickwick stands on a well-marked spur of land. Cf. Picton and Pickle Wood (NCPNW 42).
