Etymology

Maud Heath's Causeway takes its name from one Maud Heath who lived at Langley Burrell in 1474. She left money to maintain a footway from Wick Hill to Chippenham Clift. Tradition has it that she was a market woman but this has been denied in favour of some more substantial woman of the neighbourhood.For further details v. WM i, 256 ff.
