Etymology

Barnskew, Barnesthagh (sic for Barneschagh )13 MdMb 278, bosci de Barnesco c. 1240 ib 343, Barn (e )skew (mitt )1609–1685 PR (freq ), 1784 PR(Bm), Barn (e )skow mill (e )1622, 1625 PR, Barnskae 1652 PR(Mrl). 'Bjarni's wood', v. skógr ; on the forms of the ON  pers.n. Bjarni cf. Barnby (YW i, 17). The first form is from the related OE  sceaga 'copse'.
