Etymology

Bagden, Bygden 1563 WillY, Bagden als. Bigden 1591 ib, Bagden 1611 FF, Over Bagden 1619 Hnt ii, 251, Lower Bagden , Upper Bagden 1817 M, Baggden 1659 PREm. Probably a compound of OE  bagga in the sense 'bag-like' or possibly 'badger', and denu 'valley'. But the relation of this to the earliest form Byg - is obscure.
