Etymology

'Wincel's enclosure', v. worð , which is mostly combined with pers.ns. No OE  pers.n. Wicel is known, but the one DB spelling of the p.n. suggests that the older form was Wincel (from OE  wincel 'a child'), with the same loss of -n - as in Wichling K 238 (also from Wincel ), cf. Phonol. § 45. The ME voicing of intervocalic -k - to -g - is common (cf. Phonol. § 37).
