Etymology

Knoutberry Hill, Knowetberry hill 1592Comm . From e.ModE  kno (u )tberry 'cloudberry, knotberry'. The name of the fruit is probably from ON  knútr 'rocky hill', and would be a parallel formation to its other name, cloudberry , if that is from OE  clūd 'rock', so called from its natural habitat.
