Etymology

Tomlow is Twemlowe , Twemlowefurlong t. Ed 1, Temelouwefurlong 1306, Tomlowfurlong c. 1520Shuckburgh , Townlaw 1752 J, Townlow 1821 G. 'At the two hills or barrows,' v. hlaw . The name is identical in origin with Twemlow (Ch), Twamlow c. 1200, Twomlowe 1266 StWerb. Cf. also Tremelau Hundred infra 247.
