Etymology

Beck Hill Fm. In the adjacent parish of Dunchurch we have mention of Beckemede c. 1150Pipewell , Beck meadow t. Hy 8MinAcct , 1709Buccleuch . Beck Hill (first noted in 1830 O.S.) lies just across the Leam, but it is difficult to believe that this stream was ever known as the 'beck.' More probably both names alike contain the OE  pers. name Becca .
