Etymology

Bransford Bridge is pons de Brunesford 1284Ass (Lei), a Bridge called now Benesford bridge but antiently Brunesford-bridge 1656 Dugdale, Bensford Bridge 1695 Morden, Brunsford Bridge 1725 B. Dugdale is doubtless right in his suggestion that “It may very well be that…it might have its originall from Bruno , who held Bruneswauere in the Conq. time” (Dugdale 10), Brownsover being the next parish to the south.
