Etymology
Pile Hill. Cf. Pilmor 1356 AD iii, le Pyle 1548LRMB , land called Piles 1596 SrWills, and was the home of William atte Pyle (1325Ass ) and Robert ate Pile (1332 SR). This must be the OE pīl , 'stake,' as in Pilemoor (PN D 420).
