Etymology

Chaffolds Fm is very likely identical with Rowchalforde (sic)1516, Rowchawfolde 1576 SAC vi, the s being pseudo-manorial.This must be 'calves' enclosure,' v. cealf , falod . Row is probably OE  ruh, 'rough,' dropped in the modern name. Cf. Rowbarns infra 140.
