Stansted Ho is la Stanstrete in villa de Welkenestede 1263Ass , Stanstret (e )1418Harl , 1487, 1489 Ipm, 1559 LGo, Standstreete 1664SR , Stan Street 1680 Seller. 'Stone street,' referring to the old Roman road here going from London towards East Grinstead. Cf. Stratton infra and Worsted Green supra 302.The modern form is a fairly recent corruption.
