Etymology

Nonsuch Park is Nonnesuche 1538 LP, Nonsuch al. Cuddington 1547 VCH iii, 267, Nonesuche al. Codyngton 1562Recov , Nonsuche 1566FF , Nonesuch Parke 1605 SrWills. The park and palace were made by Henry the Eighth (v. infra ) and the name was evidently intended to describe its nonpareil quality.In part perhaps by reason of the fame of this palace, Nonsuch is found several times as a Surrey field-name, but v. infra 369.
