Etymology

Hyde is la Hide 1284 FF (p), la Hidehalle 1326 Cl, field called le Hyde 1415 TootingCt, Hidefelde 1535 VE, Hyde Farm 1823 Br, c. 1870 O.S. 6″. v. hid . The land lay between Clapham Park and Tooting Bec Common, and the Falcon Brook skirted the property on the S. and S.W. sides. The farm buildings were demolished c. 1900 and the land built over (A. B.).
