Etymology

Cold Harbour Lane (6″). Cf. Coldherbergh 1363 IpmR, 1366 Cl, Cold Harbor 1680 Index Villaris, Coleharbour 1720 Strype, Coal Harbour lane 1787 Act (A. B.). This name is interesting since it provides one of the rare medieval spellings for the very common place-name Cold Harbour . For a discussion of this name v. infra 406. This manor seems to have been known alternatively as Coldabbey in Pekham 1440 AD ii, Cold Abbey 1492 AD iii, 1506 FF, Cold Abbey lands 1515–18 ECP, but no connection can be traced between this place and St Nicholas Cole Abbey in the City.
