Etymology

*'Lēoda 's h(e)alh.' *Lēoda , which Ekwall gives as a possible first element of Leadenham L, would be a short form of such names as Lēodweald . Or the first element could be the unrecorded OE  lēod , which may be the source of dialect (L and C) leed , 'reed meadow grass,' and which Ekwall suggests as an alternative first element for Leadenham in the appendix to DEPN.
