Etymology

v. stoc . The place was bought by William Lynde in the early 15th century, according to Blo viii, 11. The present suffix looks like a blending of his surname with that of the earlier owners, the family of del Isle or Insula . In the will of the later owner, given Blo viii, 12, he calls himself “I, William Lynde of Stokelisle.”
