Etymology

The two 12th-century Pipe Roll forms suggest that the first element is the personal name *Scyttel found in Shillington Beds (PN BedsHu 174) and Shitlington WRY and Nb. The other forms accord better with the etymology 'Scytta 's ford,' Scytta being the name of which *Scyttel is a diminutive.
