Silgrove Wood

Early-attested site in the Parish of Rotherfield Peppard

Etymology

Silgrove Wood (6″). Cf. Selegrove Lond 1318–19 AD. Ekwall (DEPN) assumes a derivative *s (i )ele of sealh , 'willow,' for the first element of Silton Do, Selby WRY and Silchester Ha. Such an element would give good sense here. v. grāf(a).
