Etymology

Cold Harbour is on the boundary between Lower Heyford and Kirtlington, and is very likely a corruption of Caldhememere , which occurs early 13thSt John in a charter concerning Kirtlington.'Boundary of the people of Caulcott': v. hǣme for the Oxfordshire names formed from that word and the first element of another name.Final element (ge)mǣre. For the modern name v. PN Sr 406–10 and infra Fan: it is Coal or borough Cottage 1822 O.S.
