Etymology

Hildesden (lost) is Hildesdene 1005–1012 (c. 1325–50) Thorney , 1230 Os, 1252 (c. 1444) BC, Hildesden 1349 Ipm.'Hild 's valley,' v. denu .It is clear from references in BC that there was a Hildesden Wood ; and Hildesdene broke , mentioned in the 1230 Os reference, is evidently an alternative name for Danes Brook (v. 7). For a discussion of the personal name v. PN Bk 63: Hillesden in Bk, about 11 miles away, means 'Hild 's valley.'
