Etymology

'tūnof the Horningas ,' the latter being no doubt the dwellers in the horna or tongue of land between the two streams on either side of the village, which is the first element in the name of the neighbouring parish of Horley. For another occurrence of the term horningas v. 316. Hornington (WRY) has the same etymology as Hornton.
