Etymology

'Land by the river belonging to *Cuc ,' v. hamm . Cf. PN Wo 312 for other occurrences of the personal name in place-names: the forms given definitely point, however, to a name Cuc , not Cucc , as suggested there. The Oxfordshire place is referred to in (to ) Cuceshæma (gemære )887 (11th) BCS 547, v. hǣme .
