Etymology

Andersey Island is Andresia c. 1104 (c. 1225), 1225 Abingdon.'Andrew's island,' v. (ī)eg: it is so named from the Church of St Andrew (capellam Sancti Andreae de Insula c. 1104 (c. 1225) Abingdon), the site of which is marked on the 6″ map—cf. “Insula quaedam ad australem plagam monasterii…sita, Andresia a nomine Apostoli Andreae, cuius inibi ecclesia habebatur, nuncupata…” Abingdon. Cf. the surname Anderson.
