Coombe Wood takes name from Cumbes 1221–8 Eynshet freq to 1278–9 RH, Cumbe c. 1240 Eynshet freq to 1273–4 Ipm (p), Coumbe 1297 CornAcc, 1300 Ipm, Combe 1517 D Inc. Cumbe Brok and Cumbegrave are mentioned 1278–9 RH. 'Valley(s),' v. cumb : -grave is probably 'grove.'
