Etymology
Heath Bridge. Cf. aqua de Heithe 1285Ass , Hetheneburnde c. 1294 (c. 1444) BC, Hethenburnde 1354–5 (1456) ForPer . The first element is hǣþ , 'heath,' and the last burna , 'stream.' It is impossible to say what was originally in the middle: possibly ende , in which case the meaning would be 'stream at the border of the heath,' or possibly ened , 'duck.'
