Etymology
'Dairy farm in the pebbly place,' v. wic . The first element is the OE papol (stan ), 'pebble,' noted in Newton Poppleford (PN D 592). “Some of the fields on the east side of the village are very pebbly” (ex inf . H.H.S.).
