Etymology

Dorket Head is Dalegate early 13th BM, 1305Rufford , Dalgateheved 1335For , Dale gate heved t. Hy 8 ib., Dallegate heved grene 1602ForBk , Dorket Head c. 1825 O.S., and was the home of Robert de Dalegate (1287For ), William and Henry de Dalgate (1297 Ch, 1317For ) and Richard de Dal (e )gate (1327SR , 1335Ass ). This is a Scandinavian place-name from OScand  dalr, 'valley' and gata , 'road,' with reference to the road which runs up the valley here from Daybrook to Calverton. Head from the site of the place at the head of the valley.
