Etymology

Speller Fm (6″) is Longespellowe 1361 AD iii, Spellowe 1662Clayton . 'Speech-hill,' v. hoh . Cf. Spella Ho supra 33 and Spelhoe Hundred infra 131. There is a long hill here with old paths and roads in the neighbourhood, such as would have made it a good place of assembly.
