Etymology

Harland is on the top of a hill and in the neighbourhood are a large number of tumuli. With this in view it is possible that the first element is an OE  *har meaning apparently 'a rock, tumulus, heap of stones' (cf. PN BedsHu 137). Harome 70infra seems to contain the same element.
