Etymology

'Broad eg' v. brad . The modern form is regularly developed from OE ā . The 'broad eg ' was no doubt the level tract of land between Whisperdale Beck and Breaday Gill, bounded on the north by the end of the ridge now called Breaday Heights, formerly heued (v. heafod ).
