ON  fit 'meadow,' dat. plur .fitjum , found frequently in Norw  p.n.'s, such as Fetten , Steifet , etc. (NG passim ); cf. the lost Fithum in Faceby (1333 Riev) and Fitts 127supra . For the long vowel cf. Upleatham 153supra .
