Etymology

Baber Bridge is Baber Bridge 1593 N, Babersbridge c. 1800 Lysons and takes its name from a farm called Babbewrth 1268 Pat, Babbeworth 1274Ass . Cf. also Babbeuuorthepond 1301 Pat, 1302Ass , Babbeworthpond 1370 Pat, Babbeworthponte 1376 AD v, Babermead 1553 Pat. 'Babba 's enclosure,' v. worþ . For the modern development cf. Abinger (PN Sr 259) and for the personal name cf. Babbehegge 1294Ass in Ealing. The bridge was that which carried the main Bath road over the Crane just to the west of Hounslow.
