Etymology

Ray (lost) is la Rye 1257 FF (p), Reye next Feltham 1294 ib., la Reye 1311 AD iii, Great Rye , Little Rye 1631 VCH, Ray Close 1801 EnclA. 'At the well watered or marshy land' from ME  atter eye , v. eg and cf. Rye (PN Sx 536). The place was on the south border of the parish near Felthamhill (VCH 317).
