Etymology
It would seem that the original initial consonant of this name was G . In that case the name would mean 'Grim 's down.' Cf. Grim's Ditch supra 11. Here the name is probably a surname with no mythological significance. There is no hill here and dun must be used of open country as in Farndon (PN Nt 213).
