Etymology

Chaldean's Fm is Celgdene 1086 DB, Chaldene 1213FF (p), 1303 FA, Chaldenes 1402, Chalden 1428 FA. 'Chalk valley,' v. cealc , denu . The name seems to have been preserved in a different form in the name of the manor-house; that is Carldane Court (6″), earlier Carle Daines (16th VCH iv, 627).
