Rye End

Etymology

Rye End is so named in 1728 (Sal). Cf. Reefeld , le Reefeld , Rayfeld t. Ed 1Stowe , Rye Field c. 1840TA . This is from ME  atter ee , 'at the water,' v. æt , ea , and cf. Rye Ho infra 201. The place lies by the Mimram river. The field, now called Ray Field , is farther down stream by Tanyard Cottages.
